Box Office Journal tracks the money side of the movie business. We publish daily box office charts, worldwide revenue figures, production budgets, and release schedules for thousands of films, drawn from The Movie Database and refreshed every day. There is no paywall and no account required.
Revenue figures on this site are worldwide lifetime gross in US dollars, combining domestic (United States and Canada) and international ticket sales across a film's full theatrical run. Production budget covers the cost of making the film and excludes marketing, which commonly adds another 50 to 100 percent on top. Because exhibitors keep roughly half of every ticket sold, a film generally needs to earn somewhere near twice its production budget before it breaks even theatrically.
All-time figures are not adjusted for inflation. Older films are therefore understated relative to recent releases, and ticket price growth accounts for a meaningful share of the gap.
